Airtel Kenya has announced a partnership with oil marketer, Total, allowing customers to pay for fuel though Airtel Money.

Total petrol stations will be converted to agents where customers can register for Airtel Money, deposit cash, withdraw cash as well as pay for their utility bills.

“Each Total service station will be set up with a unique paybill business name that the customer will use to purchase goods and services,” Airtel Kenya managing director, Mr Shivan Bhargava, said during the unveiling of the partnership on Wednesday.

The service is available at Total outlets in Nairobi, Kisumu, Mombasa, Nakuru and Eldoret.

Meanwhile, Airtel Kenya parent company, Bharti Airtel has announced plans to invest about Sh10.5 billion in its Gabon business.

In a meeting with Gabon President Ali Bongo in Libreville on Tuesday, Bharti Airtel’s chief executive officer Manoj Kohli said the firm will work with the government to achieve ICT goals.

“We are in Gabon for the long haul and will support both commercial and social programmes. These include the deployment of a 3G and 4G network, when made available, to help businesses and the youth access world class data services,” said Mr Kohli. The money will be injected in the country over the next three years.
