Kenyan Universities Work with IBM to Develop IT Leaders of the Future

NAIROBI, Kenya - 31 Jan 2013

In an effort to meet growing demand for highly skilled IT professionals, three of Kenya’s leading universities are teaming with IBM (NYSE: IBM) to create an advanced educational and training environment. These partnerships will help students develop critical Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) skills in areas such as analytics, cyber security, big data, social business and cloud.

As part of the collaboration, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Riara University and Strathmore University will have access to the latest enterprise software and systems. Faculty will have no-charge access to an extensive library of IT curricula for computer science, business and other degree programs and be able to participate in ongoing training opportunities. Students will also have access to IBM experts and real-world case studies from a range of industries.

Digital set top boxes gather dust in shops as Kenyans slow in uptake

The sale of digital tv set top boxes has failed to pick up as Kenyans are not in a hurry to acquire the gadgets enabling them migrate from analogue to digital TV signal.

This is despite heavy campaigns in the press by the government encouraging citizens to acquire the gadgets so that the country can smoothly transit to digital TV viewing.

Majority of citizens in areas that are already receiving digital TV signal, including the capital Nairobi, are seemingly not bothered by the migration as they continue to enjoy analogue TV signal.

Telkom Kenya remains optimistic despite odds

Telkom Kenya is putting on a brave face despite what seems to be dwindling fortunes, and now says it is intent on growing the number of customers on its network, as well as get its customers to use its products.

The company termed a recent dip in the number of customers its mobile network as a minor setback, and is putting measures in place to turn around the situation over the coming quarters.
